12% of Halifax businesses have no website
I measured. Every month my crawler checks 474 Halifax businesses across ten everyday categories and audits every website it finds. This page is what the data says, and what I build for the businesses that want to be on the right side of it.
Halifax is the biggest, most competitive local market east of Quebec. When someone here searches for a plumber, a dentist, or a Saturday-night restaurant, they see paid ads, national directories, and the handful of local businesses that got their web presence right. Everyone else is invisible.
I don’t guess about the state of Halifax’s web presence: I measure it. The same crawler that keeps my own sites honest checks 474 local businesses across ten everyday categories, restaurants to roofers, and audits every website it finds for speed, mobile readiness, HTTPS, and the technical signals Google reads. The numbers on this page are from September 2026, and they refresh automatically.
Where Halifax businesses are losing online
- 33% of auto repair shops have no website at all: 20 of the 61 I checked.
- 21% of roofing companies have no website at all: 6 of the 28 I checked.
- 19% of accountants have no website at all: 12 of the 64 I checked.
- 7% of existing sites aren’t mobile-ready, on the devices nearly every local search happens on.
- 33% give Google no structured data, so search engines only half-understand what the business even is.
- 11% of listed websites are dead or unreachable, sending customers to an error page.
Aggregate numbers only: I never publish results for individual businesses. Want to know where yours stands? Run the same audit yourself, free.

Sites that pass every check above
Every site I build for a Halifax business clears the audit this page is based on by construction: mobile-first, HTTPS, structured data Google can read, and load times under a second on the same AWS and Cloudflare infrastructure that runs ERstat.ca at 100k+ visits a month. Business email on your own domain included, flat written quote before any work starts, and everything happens remotely: phone, email, and Google Meet.
Also serving: Dartmouth · Sydney · Glace Bay · Truro · Bedford · New Glasgow · Lower Sackville · Kentville · New Minas · Bridgewater · Yarmouth · Amherst · Antigonish · Port Hawkesbury. See every city I track.
Questions from Halifax businesses
How do I stand out in Halifax when agencies and ads dominate the results?
The organic results still belong to sites that load fast, read well on phones, and give Google clean structured data. My audit data shows over a third of Halifax sites fail at least one of those basics, so doing them properly is still a real edge, even downtown.
Do you meet Halifax clients in person?
No, everything happens remotely: phone, email, and Google Meet. It keeps overhead out of your quote, and most clients never miss the meeting room.
What does a small-business website cost in Halifax?
The same as anywhere I work: a flat written quote before any work starts. A straightforward site is a few days of my time, and you’ll know the exact number before you commit.
Be findable in Halifax.
Start with the questionnaire or a free 20-minute call. Flat written quote before anything begins.
